A storm impacted Gage County, Nebraska June 11.
According to the Lincoln Journal Star, hail rained down on Beatrice on June 11, and high winds impacted homes and powerlines in Wymore. There are still residents without electricity, and others have temporarily evacuated their homes due to severe flooding.
Additionally, an F-1 tornado touched down near Big Indian Lake with winds reaching up to 85-90 mph, according to the National Weather Service, reported the Lincoln Star Journal.
"The tornado actually did start there at the Big Indian area, and the damages you're going to see are about a four mile to five mile area,” said Lisa Weigand, emergency manager of Gage County, reported News Channel Nebraska. “We had about three campers that were completely demolished at Big Indian, due to rear-flank winds. Most of Wymore's damages, they confirmed, were caused by straight line winds up to 100 miles-per-hour."
Weigand added that there were no significant injuries or deaths. 75% of Wymore was without power as of Sunday afternoon, added Weigland.
The storm impacted the entire county, but hit the southern region the hardest, reported the Lincoln Journal Star. Wymore and Blue Springs experienced the brunt of the damage and Wymore declared the event a disaster with the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency.
Emergency crews worked to restore power to the city, the Salvation Army provided meals and water to those assisting, and the city of Wymore opened the Wymore Community Center to the public, reported the Lincoln Journal Star. The Wymore Fire Department also put cots in its station for people to take naps and strangers have been assisting those who need food or water, according to Austin Jackson, Wymore's library director, reported the Lincoln Journal Star.
