The Washington State Department of Ecology recently published an updated version of its Stormwater Management Manual for Western Washington. The new version "applies recent research, updates design criteria and procedures, corrects errors and clarifies statements from the previous release," according to an agency announcement.
It includes information on both "low-tech" and "high-tech" stormwater management tools for applications at residential, commercial, industrial, and construction sites, the announcement said. The manual also encourages the use of infiltration (storing stormwater in a basin to enable its slow absorption into the groundwater) as the preferred method for managing stormwater, the announcement noted.
For additional information, or to obtain paper or electronic versions of the manual, see www.ecy.wa.gov/programs/wq/stormwater/manual.html.
A similar manual for eastern Washington was published in September and is available at www.ecy.wa.gov/biblio/0410076.html.
