UPDATE: A severe weather threat does remain but has downgraded to a "marginal risk with a slight risk south" in the Philadelphia area, according to CBS Philadelphia.
In Delaware County, Penn., more storms are on the way after flooding affected surrounding communities. According to CBS Philadelphia, a flash flood watch is in effect for Philadelphia and nearby counties from 2 p.m. to midnight Tuesday.
Rain is expected in the valley Tuesday, Aug. 13, according to CBS Philadelphia. Storms will most likely arrive in rounds during the afternoon. The Philadelphia/Mt. Holly office is sixth for severe thunderstorm warnings issued this year across the U.S. at 350 warnings. With more rain coming, this will add 1 to 2 in. of precipitation to Delaware Valley, according to Buck County Courier Times.
The weather also has affected the construction of a nearby housing development, according to Buck County Courier Times. Builder John McGrath said the community is almost done but the weather has added five months to the project.
“The rain has affected us in the past few months,” McGrath said to Buck County Courier Times.
According to Buck County Courier Times, the lake at Falls Township Community Park has overflowed.
“It’s definitely a day people should be aware of what’s happening ... Have their phones with them (for weather alerts),” said Trent Davis, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Westampton, N.J., according to Buck County Courier Times.
Last year was the second wettest season for Philadelphia, according to the National Weather Service. The city had 34.89 in. of rain as of Monday this year, compared to 26 in. for an average year, according to Buck County Courier Times.
“It’s definitely above normal. We haven’t had much of a break from last year,” Davis said, according to Buck County Courier Times.
