A May 1, 2024, update from Surf City, North Carolina stated that the South Shore stormwater project will be pouring concrete for sidewalks and viewports of the chamber.
The recent update states that town staff will reinstall parking bumpers and signage to open the site back up to the public.
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) resurfacing project continues to progress and has an estimated completion date of May 17, 2024.
The South Shore stormwater project had an initial estimated start date of September 11, 2023. The project had an expected duration of 150 days to substantial completion, and 180 days to final completion for the 1815 site. The 2201 site had an expected duration of 90 days to substantial completion, and 120 days to final completion.
The project will install a total of 5,674 square feet of stormwater management underground filtration system, a stormwater pump station with an accessible electrical control panel, a stormwater drainage system and erosion sediment control at the two sites.
The effort is expected to help reduce the amount of standing water on South Shore Drive and redirect it back into the groundwater. This should address flooding on South Shore Drive and allow for safer road access during rainstorms.
NCDOT will also be resurfacing the entirety of South Shore Drive from the S-Curve south to the Topsail Beach town line.
NCDOT will also be resurfacing the entirety of South Shore Drive from the S-Curve.
The City stated that the contractor’s supplier is delayed in receiving the lid for the wet well that houses the pump that feeds the 1815 site, but they’ll work to install the control panel until they receive the necessary parts to complete the project.
The City expects the project to be operational by Memorial Day.
