The new Monitoring Buoy is a unique combination of real-time water quality monitoring and user-friendly cloud software that stores and analyzes received water quality data. The system represents cost-effective monitoring and early warning solution for lakes and water reservoirs.

The new monitoring system introduced by LG Sonic is based on their MPC-Buoy interactive algae control solution. It allows users to monitor water quality at low cost, before deciding upon the best path for water treatment. When the decision is made to begin recovery of the water body, the Monitoring Buoy can be easily upgraded to the MPC-Buoy interactive algal bloom solution.

LG Sonic’s New Monitoring Buoy continuously monitors water quality in real-time and delivers the data via radio, GPRS, or 3G to web-based software. There, the data received are summarised and published into charts, tables, and spreadsheets on the customer’s individual webpage. The software allows generating a complete overview of the water quality of one or multiple water bodies. A remarkable feature is the possibility to set alerts for changing water conditions.

Monitoring and Early Warning System

The system collects the following parameters: Chlorophyll α (green algae), Phycocyanin (blue-green algae), pH, Turbidity, Dissolved Oxygen, and Temperature, with a possibility to include additional sensors. Making use of Artificial Intelligence (AI), the Monitoring Buoy predicts algal blooms based on water quality data automatically. An early warning enables to implement management strategies prior to the bloom occurrence, ensuring the protection of human health.

Monitoring Buoy requires little operational efforts and maintenance. The system is easily deployable with the use of pontoon and anchored in the reservoir on unsinkable floats. It uses solar panels that provide power, all year round in any country. Water quality sensors are equipped with a wiper mechanism for automatic cleaning of the sensors after each reading, keeping the maintenance to a minimum and the readings accurate.
