CASQA to Host Quarterly Meeting

May 5, 2009
Agenda focused on storm water harvesting and reuse

For the first time, the California Stormwater Quality Association (CASQA) will devote an entire quarterly meeting to exploring storm water harvesting and reuse.

The subject matter is extremely timely for those involved with both water supply and storm water management given the ongoing drought conditions affecting much of the western U.S. It is also an important emerging issue in storm water permits, as current tentative orders are starting to prioritize storm water harvesting and reuse, along with infiltration, as preferred strategies of low-impact development.

The agenda for the meeting brings together a diverse range of experts that will help shape attendees' understanding of this important topic. It includes:

• An overview of policy and integration issues from a water supply, sanitary sewer and storm water perspective;

• An exploration of regulatory barriers and solutions. For example: Are there water rights issues? Can storm water be used within buildings for nonpotable uses? What are the public health issues?; and

• A review of case studies where storm water has been successfully harvested and reused at a facility and a regional scale.

The meeting will be held May 15 from 9 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. at the Waterfront Hotel in Jack London Square, Oakland, Calif. A live webcast is available for those unable to attend.
