Vulcan Utility Signs Chosen to Mark Ruby Pipeline

Nov. 29, 2010
Company plans to use HDPE Bullet Markers for the project

Vulcan Utility Signs, a manufacturer of durable outdoor marking products, was chosen to mark the 680-mile stretch of El Paso Corp.’s Ruby Pipeline. The 42-in. underground pipe will run from Opal, Wyo., to Malin, Ore. The line will include four compressor stations that also will be marked by Vulcan.

Through years of collaborative efforts, El Paso Corp., parent company for the Ruby Pipeline, and Vulcan have developed a long-standing partnership built on quality, service and respect. This relationship led to the decision to award Vulcan Utility Signs the marking portion of the project.

To protect the pipeline, Vulcan High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Bullet Markers will be used. The Vulcan Bullet Marker provides visibility with a true 360° warning message. These markers will be screen printed with Vulcan’s specially formulated Color Matched Component Ink System, providing longevity of the message. Vulcan’s Bent Style Aerial Markers and Aluminum Compressor Station Signs will be used as future marking solutions. The aluminum used for all signs is 5052 alloy, which is manufactured on Vulcan’s 30-acre campus. This particular alloy is the metal specified in most states for road signs due to its strength, durability and non-corrosive properties. The “811-Know What’s Below, Call Before You Dig” symbol also has been integrated into the design of the marking system to ensure an easy call-to-locate process.
