McAdams Offers New Service Line

Sept. 18, 2014
Ken Williams Jr. will provide in-house subsurface utility engineering services

McAdams has brought on board one of the Triangle area’s top experts in subsurface utility engineering (SUE) service, Ken Williams Jr. With this type of service capability, McAdams clients can benefit with significant cost savings during construction, a reduction in delays and increased safety to contractors during construction caused by cutting, damaging or discovering unidentified utility lines, as well as assistance in the increasingly user-friendly GIS database systems.

“The SUE process provides value engineering information during project planning and design, which allows us to avoid unnecessary impacts to existing utilities and to save the costs of adjustments and delays, said John Pickens, Director of Surveying. “SUE is also an essential component of our Environment, GIS and Construction Services.”

McAdams offers Quality Levels A through D and wisely follows these quality levels as defined by ASCE Standard Guidelines for the Collection and Depiction of Existing Subsurface Utility Data. The use of quality levels allows project owners to decide what quality level of information they want to apply to their risk management challenge and to certify on project plans that a certain level of accuracy and comprehensiveness has been provided.  McAdams is committed to providing the highest quality SUE service for our clients.
