A Shrinking Source

A new report shows that some of America's most iconic regions are now under even greater risk of water scarcity.

The Columbia University Water Center, in conjunction with Veolia Water and Growing Blue, reported that dwindling water supplies in Washington, D.C.; New York City; Los Angeles; and San Diego are of critical concern, as water scarcity in these areas would impact approximately 40 million Americans. Numerous counties in 46 states also are facing drought-induced shortages, as are Nebraska, Illinois and Minnesota, which together produce almost 40% of the nation's corn—a key ingredient in many foods and an essential feed source for livestock.
While this is by no means good news, it does provide opportunity for new innovation and economic growth as we work to ensure that our entire country has access to clean water.
