Youth of Today

April 29, 2014
On April 22, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced the four winners of its second annual Campus RainWorks Challenge, a design contest created to engage college and university students in reinventing our water infrastructure and developing innovative green infrastructure systems to reduce storm water pollution. Teams of undergraduate and graduate students, working with a faculty advisor, developed creative designs showing how managing storm water at its source can benefit the campus community and the environment.  Public outreach contests like this are a great way to get people, especially students, talking and thinking about water management and infrastructure challenges. The younger generation represents the future of the water industry as well as the nation and world, and getting them thinking innovatively and creatively sets us up for success in the future. Does your utility or facility run any programs to encourage young people to look at the challenges facing our industry? Write to [email protected]. and share your experiences.
