Public outreach programs allow water systems to keep in touch with and educate their customers, informing them about weather advisories, water and sewer bill due dates, ways to save water, customer service, general news and watershed protection.

Staying in touch with customers allows water systems to provide the best possible services—a crucial part of the customer-provider relationship—and promote programs such as payment plans for overdue bills, deferrals and other forms of assistance, which can prevent service terminations and help with revenue recovery.
