StormCon in the City of Roses

Aug. 5, 2014

The staff of Storm Water Solutions attended StormCon 2014 in Portland, Ore., this week, and was able to meet with many of our readers and customers during a busy few days. Thanks to all those who stopped by our booth to chat or pick up copies of our magazines, and for those of you unable to make it to the show for any reason, don't forget to register for the SWS Virtual Expo next year—a show you can attend online, from the comfort of your office.

Former Maryland Gov. Parris Glendening spoke at the opening keynote session at StormCon on Tuesday, and addressed the issue of funding infrastructure in challenging economic times. He mentioned challenges many of you are familiar with, including aging infrastructure, changing demographics, tightening budgets and the need for tougher environmental standards, and proposed a few ways to address these challenges, including: Redirect economic energy into existing communities, reuse existing buildings and reimagine urban sprawl.

These issues aren't going away any time soon, but being able to meet with solution providers and peers at a standard tradeshow or a virtual one can help us make connections and lead to innovative thinking—and check out the SWS 2014-2015 September Case Book next month for more ways that challenges were able to be overcome with a little creativity.
