undefinedPresident Obama signed the economic stimulus bill, also known as the American Economic Recovery and Reinvestment Act, Feb. 17. The total cost of the stimulus bill is approximately $787 billion.
The bill (HR1) contains $2 billion in funding for drinking water infrastructure; $4 billion for wastewater utilities; $1.4 billion for rural drinking water, wastewater and waste disposal projects; and $4.6 billion for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for new projects to improve flood protection, navigation, hydropower and the existing water resource infrastructure and completion of current water projects.

Green Roof Professional Exam Now Completed
Members of Green Roofs for Healthy Cities’ Accreditation Exam Development Committee have completed their final review of the Green Roof Professional (GRP) accreditation exam. The first GRP exam will be administered in Atlanta on June 5.
GRP accreditation will help raise the level of professional knowledge and provide the means to allow individuals to distinguish themselves in the marketplace. The new designation will also serve to protect the industry from the inevitable failures that result from poor design, installation and maintenance practices.
Insituform Wins $13-Million Contract in Nevada
Insituform Technologies Inc. announced that it was awarded $13 million in sewer pipe rehabilitation work for Nevada’s Clark County Water Reclamation District (WRD). The project will rehabilitate approximately 14,000 ft of 36- to 60-in. large-diameter sewer pipe.
Insituform, a prequalified contractor with the Clark County WRD, will use its cured-in-place-pipe technology for the project. Work is expected to be completed by March 2010.
IECA Announces Board of Directors
At the 40th conference and expo of the International Erosion Control Association (IECA), held in Reno, Nev., the IECA Board of Directors installed two new officers and held elections to determine new positions.
The following IECA Board of Directors members will each serve a three-year term:
- Michael Chase, CPESC, CPSWQ, CESSWI, president;
- Julie Etra, CPESC, international development vice president;
- Ron Faucher, CPESC, past president;
- Phil Handley, REM, CPESC, director;
- Mark Hunter, P.E., MPA, treasurer;

- Rick Morse, CPESC, CPSS, CEnvP, director;

Aquascape Installs Rainwater Harvesting System in Ghana
A group of Aquascape Foundation volunteers traveled to Kuve Village in Ghana, Africa, in January to install Aquascape’s RainXchange System and Genieye’s Eye-Nizer water purification system. The rainwater harvesting system captures rainwater from the school’s roof and stores it in a subsurface 8,000-gal reservoir. The system will capture and filter more than 100,000 gal of water per year, providing clean drinking water for more than 400 children.
