Porous Paving at Hotel Healdsburg, California
Many diners and hotel guests at The Hotel Healdsburg prefer to sit outside and enjoy the sunshine and beautiful weather that Healdsburg, California has to offer. The restaurant/bar had limited patio space and wanted to add additional seating for high demand periods while keeping the space flexible for less busy times. They wanted an affordable, functional and aesthetically pleasing solution.
Gravelpave2 by Invisible Structures was used to convert an old grass area to an outdoor patio. The goal was to create a functional, easy to maintain, ADA Accessible area that would complement the aesthetics of this beautiful hotel. Stormwater issues would also be addressed with the use of Gravelpave2 ensuring that the patio would be free from any puddles or mud and always in usable condition. The installation was fast and minimally disruptive to guests.
Gravelpave2 is a 100% recycled plastic ring-on-grid structure designed to support unlimited pedestrian or vehicular traffic. With great flexibility and a high compressive strength, it is a practical and sustainable option for a multitude of applications. The fabric backing acts as a vegetation barrier, a dust inhibitor, provides true aggregate containment and will never come off or disintegrate. A 92% void space allows for rapid stormwater drainage and filtration of environmental toxins through bioremediation, offering practical and environmentally beneficial solutions.
Gravelpave2 made the space multifunctional and ensured flexibility for current and future use. The designer, Geared for Growing, selected a tan color and filled the rings with a warm, light colored aggregate, which complimented the surrounding greenery and shade coverings, creating a beautiful and natural feeling space. The use of a light color aggregate aides in keeping the patio cooler on warm days. Tables and chairs were added to complete the space and make it ready for guests to enjoy.
