The Plano City Council approved a $2.6 million erosion control project that will include creek stabilization and erosion measures.

According to The Dallas Morning News, the project will occur at Spring Creek at 16th Street and will include the installation of a gabion basket tieback wall, which will be about 500 feet in length.

The project, which is designed to prevent continued erosion and property damage, will also include the addition of a hike and bike trail with a pedestrian bridge on top of the wall.

" The continued erosion will result in the continued loss and damage of property for the adjacent property owners, as well as the Parks & Recreation Department, resulting in additional future maintenance costs and a reduction in the quality of life for City of Plano residents," the city council's agenda memo for the project said.

Funding for the project is coming from the 2022-23 Municipal Drainage and Park Improvements Community Investment Program, the Dallas Morning News reported. According to the city, additional funding will be planned for the future.
